Amakhosi made two alterations from their Saturday defeat at the hands of Royal AM, with Solomons and George Matlou being called on to replace Njabulo Blom and Cole Alexander respectively.

It was kaizer chiefs that took the lead in the 3rd minutes through the new signee Ashley Du Preez, scoring on his home league debut. However, the minutes later Amakhosi benefited from goalkeeping error as they piled more pressure on King Ndlovu, who ultimately resulted in a blunder falling into Keegan Dolly's feet, who gleefully scored to extend the lead.

The debutant, George Matlou suffered a knee injury after colliding with the former kaizer chiefs left-back Keegan Ritchie. The glamor boys went to half-time leading the team of choice by 2-0, courtesy of Ashley Du Preez and Keegan Dolly goals.

The former Swallows FC midfielder was replaced by Nkgosingphile Ngcobo in the second stanza of the game as he couldn't continue with an injury. Maritzburg united dominated possession for the most part of the second half looking to score a goal, however chiefs defence was solid.

With 6 minutes remaining on the clock , coach Arthur Zwane handed a 18-year old Mduduzi Shabalala a rare debut as he came in for Keegan Dolly , his first game for kaizer chiefs senior team since he was promoted this season. It didn't take the Amakhosi development product a much time to score on his debut as he received a nice pass from Billiat, which he gladly converted to extend the lead to 3-0.
